Will I notice a difference in pic quality with progressive scan or upconversion?

I have a Sony Wega CRT HD Display that accepts 480p and 480i as well as 1080i through component input. Should I buy DVD player that upconverts or should I buy a dvd player that is progressive scan. I just want to know if I should invest in an upconvert dvd player or if a progressive scan dvd player will do. Thanks for the help!

  1. Upconverting is always better, that way the TV will take the DVD signal no matter what you put in it, and display it at 1080i.

  2. Most  if not allupconvert dvd players will only out put the upconverted signal through hdmi so this would be a useless thing for you to worry about. Invest in a decent progressive scan dvd player with a nice set of component cables (red, green, blue for video and white and red for audio) to get the best picture quality

  3. With a progressive scan dvd player the resolution would be  480p.  Since your Sony Wega has a resolution up to 1080i, I would recommend purchasing a dvd player that has a up converter built in.  You will need to purchase also a HDMI cable if it doesn't come with the dvd player.
