Question:

Will I qualify for Medicaid in IL?

Here is my situation. I'm 18, unemployed, 6 months pregnant, and married but living with my parents as of now. My husband is a full-time student and works part time, but we don't live in the same household so I don't think that would be relevant. I had to drop out of high school, and I'm not enrolled in any alternative program -- I know that in SOME states, at 18 you must be in HS or an alt. program to qualify, but I don't know about IL. I have no health insurance. Does anyone know if I qualify for Medicaid in Illinois?

**Please be respectful. I'm aware that it was irresponsible for me to get pregnant, but I'm taking responsibility for it now and my husband is going into the Air Force after he graduates HS in a few months. The baby will be in a good situation. Once he goes active in the AF the baby and I will be covered for insurance, but until then, I have none, so Medicaid is needed.**

  1. I think you qualify for Medicaid.

My niece qualified for Medicaid in  New Mexico, even though she has a part-time job.  She was also pregnant.

Apply and see what happens.  Usually, it is a lot easier to qualify for Medicaid if you are pregnant.

    Good luck.

  2. since  you live with your parents they may include your parents income in determining eligibility. I would go to the public aid office and sign up. The worst they can do is tell you no...good luck

when I was 18 and pregnant I had to apply. I lived with my boyfriend, they didnt count his income because we weren't married. As soon as our son was born, medicaid was cut off because it became my boyfriends responsibility in the states eyes to provide insurance for his child.

  3. The best advice I can give you is to apply and see. Yours is not the usual situation. Here is a link to the application:
