I have old looking tile that I prefer to just take off my bathroom walls but Im afraid Ill ruin the walls. Will it be possible to tear them off and just sand down the adhesive? I was hoping to not have to put back up tile on the walls in any other spot than around the tub

  1.   try a heat gun with leather gloves, maybe it  will work

  2. More than likely the adhesive underneath will pull of pieces of the dry wall underneath.  You will need to patch it all up and paint.  Good Luck!

  3. I would take a couple off to see what the damage might be. You might want to consult someone who does or has done drywalling (mud & texture) and see if he/she could "skim coat" and texture the part of the wall that you don't want to tile. You may have to replace some of the sheetrock. If you have a good friend to consult, that would be a great idea.

  4. yes you will need to repair the walls if you do that  but if you are planning to do that eventually be prepared with extra work and expense.
