I'll be on the starlight coach train (I think that's what it's called), and I want to see some giant redwoods.

  1. I don't know about redwoods, but you will see some spectacular scenery.

  2. Sorry to tell you,but no you won't.The redwoods are north of San Francisco on the coast. The Starlight runs inland till it gets to San Francisco. You'll have to rent a car and head north on hwy 101 to get to the redwood country. It's a very nice drive and well worth doing. I always go that way when i head to my dad's in Oregon

  3. Vanessa,

I don't know, but if you do not see them, then go to Muir's Woods, a state park about 15 miles north of the Golden Gate when you get to San Francisco, and you can walk among them there, including one that is 221 feet high (or it was when I was there last). It is well worth the trip. It is like walking in a natural cathedral.

    Regards,

    Dan

  4. The good news is you'll travel through the Cascade and Siskiyou Mountains, right past Mt Shasta.  It is quite a view, even if not Redwoods.

The bad news is, The Coast Starlight is usually running on time by this point in its journey, which means some of your trip through these areas will be made in failing sun-light as it gets dark.

Still, you'll see quite a bit, and it is stunning...

    Have a safe trip!
