I understand these lamps really get hot.You cannot enjoy the lava lamp while your asleep so be safe save on your electric bill and turn it off.Besides is it worth worring about causing a fire?

Not if it is in proper working order. They are made to be on for extended periods. So long as someone hasn't put in a bulb that is too large or the cord is damaged. But those things would be danerous anytime. I would most likely cost more to have it on than a regular nite light.

You can, but I wouldn't. If you like to watch it to fall asleep, pick up a timer for about 6 bucks. Put it on a timer, and have the timer turn it off at a certain time.
