  1. Yup. It'll work just the same. The coaxial cable that carries ur current programs will still be capable of carrying the digital signal. Only difference is u'll have a nice converter box sitting some where between your wall outlet and vcr.

  2. Yes, you will be fine. Only the sending signal is being digitalized. Recording devices will still work.

  3. u will be able to record with your vcr but will not be able to change the channel while it is recording

  4. No,  this is another example of TiVo keeping the working man down.

  5. Sure why not. I still use Visicalc on my Apple II, LOL., and DOS 3.3 on my new Commodore.

  6. What about my VCR, DVD player, camcorder, and gaming console? Will I be able to use them with a digital television set?

Yes. Digital television sets are “backward compatible,” meaning existing analog equipment (VCRs, DVD players, camcorders, video games, etc.) will work on digital TV sets. However, their video will only be displayed in the maximum resolution that is available with each analog product. Manufacturers are producing a number of different connectors to hook equipment together and improve picture and sound quality when DTVs are used with existing analog equipment. Check with your retailer to determine the types of connectors that will work with your equipment.

  7. Yes 100% you will.

  8. to record a digital channel you need to be watching the programme!

  9. Yes but,You will only be able to record the program you are watching. Not watch one record another at the same time.

  10. Why the confusion? Your VCR will record whatever signal is sent to it, digital or analogue. But it won't cope with braille if you want to get hands on.

  11. Christ, digital tv has been available for TEN YEARS. Just buy a box for twenty quid or get Sky. It's not rocket science.

  12. Yes.

  13. I really hope so!! :-(

  14. i think not. i had to get rid of mine when we went digital.

  15. ye it shouldnt be any problem i used to use my vcr with my digibox.

I have to suggest though that if you're buying a digibox you should buy one with a built in hard drive. They're like sky plus but they only cost about £100 and you don't have a contract.

I got one from asda and I'd never want to use tapes again. You get digital quality recordings without the grainy bits and you don't have tapes you just delete recordings when your done with them.

But i'm sounding like a sales assistant now the long and short of it is -

your vcr will work after the digital switchover.

    x*x

  16. Not really... There would have to be a digital tuner box before the VCR and you could only record the channel the box was set on. So, automatically recording shows on different channels would be impossible.  Playback of tapes won't be a problem.

You could watch one show and record another if the VCR had it's own converter box. Like I said, the main problem would be having to change channels on the converter box manually.

Standard cable will still be around awhile. If you have cable, nothing will change right away.
