    Yes you can unless the program is copy protected. The copy protection thing has got nothing to do with the digital transition, just so you know. You satelite settop box acts as a  converter so don't worry about a thing.

  2. There will be no change to your satellite TV service in Feb 2009. If you can record stuff now you will still be able to record it next year.

    The transition in Feb 2009 only effects over the air TV broadcasts and has nothing to do with satellite TV service. You are only effected if you get local channels through an antenna instead of getting them through the satellite.

    The satellite signals that you get have always been digital, there is a converter built into the receiver that converts them into analog signals for your VCR/TV.
