Question:

Will I win a credit card dispute?

Paid $8,000 for a jewelry. Found some defects. Store did not properly disclose their no return policy prior to transaction. Store refused to grant any credit card refund as part of their no return policy which I then noticed written on the bottom of the receipt. They offered to repair, replace with a similar or other item, or credit voucher. Since I doubted the quality of their product, I became hesitant to accept any of their options. Their stores are limited and mostly located in the carribean which is not convenient. The port shopping buyer's guarantee only offers help if item is defective and basically gives the same options. Tried to ship back jewelry but they refused to accept it since I don't have authorization no. and a signed waiver that states I am aware of their no return policy and no credit card refund is to be granted. I am totally unhappy with the purchase I could not even use and dissatisfied with their customer service. Filing a credit card dispute was my last resort.

  1. Your recourse with your credit card issuer depends largely upon who the issuer is. If it is with American Express or you are a highly valued cardmember with another company (i.e. great credit score, payment history, & high credit limit...I assume you fit this profile) then you may be able to get them to go to bat for you & work out something, but trying to dispute the fact that the charge ever took place is not going to work. I'm not sure where you live, but I would be cautious of doing business w/ any type of business in the islands. I was interested in some jewelry myself (although not nearly as expensive as yours, but I changed my mind once I read the return policy & other disclosures) Buyer beware & good luck.

  2. Hard question.  Maybe a lawyer?
