Will Infrared from a green laser pointer destroy your eyes?

i have a green laser pointer but not sure if i have an IR filter, so i shone it in the mirror and the laser reflected into my eyes. are my eyes going to get bad?

  1. No. It can make you have some little issues, but lasers for general public use are pretty harmless.


  2. A quick bit of exposure is not going to have any long term negative effects on your eyes.  No need to worry.  If you experience direct exposure over several seconds, you may have some minor cause for concern worth going to see an optometrist for but what you describe shouldn't be terribly worrisome.

  3. If it was strong enough to cause damage, the death of your retinal cells is essentially instant and painless- if you don't have 'missing spots' in your vision now, you wont develop them.

    Don't do it again.

  4. It will hurt your eyes from prolonged exposure but just a few seconds will NOT harm your eyes

  5. well the infrared isnt the main thing you want to be worrying about, it is the laser. and yes you can get damage to your eyes from that...But NOT the way you did it..BTW if you have a wicked laser, yes it has an IR filter and they do more damage to your eyes cuz they ware the most powerful public lasers availiable...
