Question:

Will Josh Childress open a new era in basketball?

The NBA seems to have stayed as the ultimate place to play for people around the world but now with Josh getting the contract he did with a Greek club, do you see anything changing soon?

And will the NBA have to institute some kind of different rules with restricted free agents so that they cannot leave their teams, or will this never incorporate superstar players?

Imagine if Kobe (who grew up in Italy anyway) or someone else like him deciding to sign for a team in another country until their current contract is no longer binding.

  1. Well, if you are willing to pick up and move your family, learn a foreign language, and play a different style of basketball for a few more million dollars, then I suppose it will open a new era. I don't think it's opening it right now. I think when a top player like Kobe or Lebron moves to Europe there will be a mass migration, but when a player like Josh Childress goes over, it will be quite surprising to  see more players go.

  2. David Stern has to control the NBA with that, he was apperently thinking about adding european teams to the NBA, if he actually goes out and does that, I wouldnt worry. The NBA had a great year last year and is at its prime for the 21st century and not too many guys will be leaving, unless they get PAID like David Beckham

  3. Yes that is something I worry about that will truly affect the nba in 10 years when several top players will leave. The problem is that Euro teams have no salary cap so they can give up as much as they have. Also the NCAA rule where players have to go to college is making guys like Brandon Jennings leave for money which is bad for college.

  4. hopefully not, i hate the fact that the nba has so many forigners in it. the fact that american born players are going ot play in europe disgusts me.
