Wood has spent more time on the DL than on the field. Will he ever be a pitcher that can be counted on?

  1. He's out because of a blister, it's not structural damage, he's fine.  A pitcher uses his fingers to pitch, without one of those fingers your ineffective as a pitcher so they need to let it heel.  He'll be fine this year.  To answer your question, he already has played a full season.  Not to mention he took a huge pay cut to stay with the Cubs, so it's not like he's getting a huge multimillion dollar contract.

  2. I think he can be counted on right now.  The reason he's out right now is because of a blister, not shoulder/elbow damage like in the past.

  3. As shocking as it may seem, Wood was reliable in 2 of his 11 major league seasons, making 33 and 32 starts in 2002 and 2003 respectively. Wood would seem to be best-suited for the closer's role, where he only throws an inning at a time, but it appears that having to make 50+ appearances may be a problem for him.

I'd love to see the Cubs trade him and acquire a reliable closer but they seem to be willing to put up with Wood's inconsistancy and frequent DL stays. I'd rank Mark Prior and Wood 1-2 in the list of biggest disappointments in the last 50 years.

  4. I agree with the answer above me. Wood will never play a full season.

  5. When I learn to fly, Kerry Wood will play a full season.
