Question:

Will Kobe "Mad Cow" Bryant repeat as the MVP?

I think he has a pretty good shot depending on the success the team has, and seeing how he's getter older, they're probably going to try to give it to him out of respect. But it should be a close race between him and maybe Chris Paul or LBJ.

  1. i luv kobe but i gotta say its between cp3 or lebron

but lakers are gonna win the championship

  2. He could but it's hard to do. I think that Lebron and KG have a better chance this year at getting the MVP than Kobe.

  3. My vote is for Chris Paul. If everyone stays healthy on the Hornets, Paul's assist numbers will be crazy. If he improves his perimeter range and 3pt % and they take the West #1 or #2 spot, i think it'll be his race to lose.

  4. Its still a tight race... im a kb24 fan.. and i dont think he'll repeat again... whoever will win the west= 90% their star would be the mvp.... thats just my opinion

  5. Oh no, not LBJ or Chris Paul. Kobe will definitely get it again. He's already the top, he can only get better and go higher. KOBE ALL DAY!

  6. Everyone should use Bill Simmons's criteria for MVP voting.  That way there wouldn't be any ridiculous outcomes like Nowitzki winning MVP over Nash in '07 or Kobe winning MVP over LeBron in '08.

Question No. 1: Ten years from now, who will be the first player from this regular season that pops into my head?

Question No. 2: In a giant pickup game with every NBA player waiting to play, and two fans forced to pick sides with their lives depending on the outcome of the game (I think this is how the annual Rucker League tournament works, by the way), who would be the first player picked based on the way everyone played that season?

Question No. 3: If you replaced every MVP candidate with a decent player at their position for the entire season, what would be the effect on their teams' records?

Question 1: It's going to be LeBron's season in '08/'09.  The sky is the limit for him.

Question 2: LeBron again.  He matches up against anybody and his inhuman combination of strength, speed, and athleticism make him almost impossible to guard in the halfcourt and completely impossible to guard in the open floor.

Question 3: LeBron again.  The Cavs are a 20 win team without him, whereas the Lakers' young players and Gasol could probably still make the playoffs without Kobe.

  7. He might, but it is far from a lock.  Last year it was a foregone conclusion that the award was going to a Western Conference team.  A lot of the Eastern Conference players were discounted due to the west's overall superiority.  I think everyone realizes now that the west may be the better conference, but the best team resides in the east (Celtics).  I think some serious consideration needs to go to Garnett if he can stay healthy and the Celtics have a reg season like last year.

Garnett may not put up the huge numbers that some of the others do, but he plays fewer minutes (32.8) than the other candidates.  He has typically played around 40.  This is partially due to the fact that the  Celtics had so many blowouts.  Also, Garnett gave up some of his scoring to improve the team as a whole.  Additionally he was the defensive player of the year on a great defensive team.  He was the anchor to a defense that many called the best in the league.  Shouldn't defense be a consideration when voting for the MVP award?  Everyone always says that D wins championships.  Maybe it's time to reward it.

I think Kobe's stats might be down this year as well.  He finally has a team around him that can help with the scoring. They should increase their margin of victory, and allow Kobe some more rest with an eye toward the playoffs.  I think he will play fewer minutes this year and will give up some of his PPG.   This may have a detrimental effect on his chances like it has for Garnett as well as Duncan (34 mpg).

The other top candidates are Paul and Lebron, with a couple of others (Wade, Stoudemire, McGrady, Williams) with an outside shot.  I think Lebron will probably put up the biggest numbers of his career, but his team may not have enough wins to put him over the top.  Paul will be a legit choice if the Hornets can finish atop the west.  But, he still may be too young for an award which is often given as much for past accomplishments as it is for the current season.

If I had to place a bet I would say that Kobe will not win the award, but you can never predict what some of these voters are going to do.  I think Kobe's a deserving candidate, but not necessarily the favorite.

  8. No this will be the year of Lebron. Tim Donoheey cant pull strings for Kobe any more
