Will Lee Westwood regain his momentum in 2013?
Lee Westwood has had a torrid season, especially in the latter part of it. Lee started off the season with a world ranking of three but now it has dropped down to the fourth.
Lee is one of the very few players who play on both the European and the PGA Tour but this year, his success has been limited.
On the European Tour, he has had only one win this season. He is ranked 11th in the race to Dubai qualification and, just recently, he skipped Dunhill Links.
On the PGA Tour, this year, he has had only one second place finish and one third place. Probably his biggest achievement was the T2 finish in one of the FedEx Cup Playoffs event.
After the PGA Championship, the Englishman also parted ways with his caddie. These were the signs of frustration which were coming from a very fine golfer.
Even at the majors, Westwood did not play up to the mark. Many experts believed that, this year, he had the best chance to win a major, especially the Open Championship.
Westwood is sort of a momentum player. When he gets going, it is a treat to watch him but when the moment he gets out of his touch, things start to look ugly for him.
This season is almost over now and the question that arises is, will he bounce back in 2013?
Considering the quality player that he is, it is most certain that he will come back strong but does he have that sort of golf in him?
Lee is considered as one of the greatest ever to not win a major. Such comments can lower one’s confidence immensely and it becomes difficult for a player to get over such labels.
Westwood has always been noted for his consistency. He controls the golf ball like no other and a slight adjustment in his game will make things right, surely.
Westwood would enter his 40’s next year and at this age, most of the people lose their will and determination to win.
If Westwood still has that intent and courage, then he will surely regain his momentum. He would want to end his career with a major trophy in his drawing room. Only such motivation levels can to take him back to his glory days.
Westwood must find a good caddie and he should work on his game a little. At this level, only slight adjustments can make huge differences in the results. If he manages to make these adjustments, then he will surely bounce back in 2013.
The Englishman still enjoys plenty of support from his fans and this should really help him regain his confidence.
