Im not sure on this one, i dont believe Cotto has been in the ring with someone who will come at him as much as Margarito and also someone who has no fear whatsoever of his punching power, this is going to be a great match up but im finding it hard to work out how its going to go, will Cotto be able to handle the relentless pressure from Margarito or not ? Will it actually work in Cottos favour that he has a fighter coming on to him ?

  1. Excellent question.  This is what makes the sport of boxing so great is matchups like this.  Just if there was more of them, it would be so much better.  The old saying is that styles make fights and make for great fights like Frazier vs Ali for example and this fight is no different.  Margarito is more of a brawler seemingly fearless in the ring and tough.  Cotto has the skill and speed advantage but also has enough punching power to earn Margarito's respect.  Margarito will bore in and Cotto will catch him coming in with crisp punches.  Margarito will land a bomb or two and rattle Cotto, but Cotto will be smart enough not to take too many punches and use his superior boxing ability.  I believe that there will be a lot of fierce exchanges and a lot of action during this fight.  I believe that it will be a relatively close fight but Cotto will land the higher volume of punches particularly the last few rounds and capture a close but unanimous decison victory.

  2. Cotto is going to kick butt. Cant wait to watch the fight.

  3. tony will come staright foward alright.. the later rounds should favor margarito

  4. I'm just a huge Cotto fan I've come to realise so my answer may be slightly biased.

One of his main qualities is his patience, his willingness to let the other person make mistakes. Coming forwarded like that means he will inevitably be left open to a degree. Margarito does take punches. It's going to be a great fight don't get me wrong but I don't see why people are debating who is going to win, I really can't see Cotto losing. But boxing is a funny game, I guess.

  5. margo is not showing cotto any respect or fear of his power because he has no idea what hes in for he will be coming in big time until cotto lands a couple gut wrenches and than start picking margo off with his boxing skills margo will be looking for one big punch the rest of the fight while cotto will be patient and landing punches. i got cotto by a ref or corner stoppage.

  6. As much skill as Cotto displayed against Gomez and Mosely, Cotto did tire out in the late rounds against an OLD SHANE, Margo does not tire easily if not, he picks up his punching output.  Against Gomez, come on Gomez is good but lacked footwork and also lacked strength.

Margo owns Cotto in this fight, Cotto will be stopped in 9 rds!

  7. Should be good fight but Cotto probably a bit too skilled for Margarito

  8. I dont think Cotto would like that. Mosley was able to hit Cotto going backwards and stun him a couple times in the late rounds. One time they stopped it for water on the mat. Cotto is a slow pase fighter, beating the body up over a period of the fight and than finishing you. They are working on Cotto condicition because he gets tired late, when he has to go to war. Cotto is not a fighter that box circle around guy's. Cotto use the snapping jab to come in behind. Hopefullllllllly, Cotto has learn how to box 100 % and I dont think you can do that in one fight. Margo 1 and Paul 2, has one of the highest work rate in the Welter. Can Cotto handle 12 rounds of pressure coming his way? For Margo, stamina is not a issue but for Cotto. Margo can take a punch, that's a issue for Cotto. Im leaning tward margo but thinks it's up in the air. Cotto wasn't able to finish Mosley because he can take a punch, and give it back. Cotto got winded and wasn't able to take Mosley out. Mosley was tired himslef. People is saying Cotto can box because of the Gomez fight. Gomez doesnt prove your boxing skills. He had a good jab against Mosley but didn't show a complete boxing game against a no defense Mosley. We will see Sat.

  9. what you are saying will happen but cotto will come forward style play into margaritos hands....

should be a good fight i think cotto will lose.. dont no why

cotto is the man but has not shown he is the best at 147 yet.

they all jump on the cotto train as he is a h**l of a champ but is so easy to hit yes body shots  i dont say he is the best at them today gomez fight he looked like he was the best at body shots but didnt look like he was when in with mosley did he land one big one?? no its true that them who master the body shot cant take them well... cotto mite win but dont be so shocked if not.

  10. This fight is tailor made for Cotto.  Watch tapes of Cotto, and see where his arms are when he is in the ring.  Look at Margo, and look where his arms are.  Think about this: Cotto is known as the best body puncher in the business.  Why?  Look at where his punches are coming from.  Cotto is very agile, and is not likely to get caught by very many shots from Margo (though truthfully, Margo could end it with 1 shot).

Where Cotto's punches are coming from and that he will not have to chase Margo, unless Margo adapts his stance dramatically, Cotto will start cracking ribs...

About the relentless pressure- two decent body shots from Cotto, and Margo will not have the guts to swarm like he has other fighters.

Long long night for Margo.  Mid round TKO, but fighters go down, Cotto 1 or 2 times, margo gets floored 2 times.

Cotto's knockdowns come as a result of an accumulation of punches, and when his opponents go down, they take a long time to get up - if they can.  So no more than 2 knockdows for Cotto will win the fight for him.
