The chances for fast bowler Muhammad Sami of making a comeback in the Pakistani squad have hit the bottom as his name was omitted from the Test squad for the New Zealand tour.
However, he may be considered for the ODI squad or 30-member list of probables for the World Cup 2011 but here again the chances are very slim. Mohammad Sami last played an ODI in May 2007 against Sri Lanka.
The career of Karachi-based pacer Muhammad Sami has not been too promising, as he could not cement his place in the Pakistani team. Though he has been working hard to make an impact in the domestic cricket and thereby attract a call from the selectors, yet whenever called upon, he could not impress for more than one match in any series.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 team will tour New Zealand and will play three Twenty20s, two Tests and six ODIs.
Earlier, PCB recalled Muhammad Sami and included him for Pakistan’s Test squad against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 when two fast bowlers Muhammad Aamir and Muhammad Asif were provisionally suspended by the International Cricket Council.
Unfortunately, he could not perform well during the series in UAE against South Africa and lost his place in the Test squad. He played only one Test and could not impress the management for his selection for future.
Sami, who started his career in 2001, has played 35 Tests and 89 ODIs taking 84 and 118 wickets respectively for Pakistan.
He also has the honour of becoming third Pakistani after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium.
But all is not lost for Mohammad Sami. He can still be considered for the ODI squad against New Zealand, if he performs well in the domestic scene.
Sami was the member of the Pakistan team until 2007 when he was dropped after Pakistan tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 where he grabbed only four wickets in three Test matches. He was recalled for the Australian series in 2009-10 where Pakistan lost all the matches including three Tests, five ODIs and one Twenty20. Sami played only one Test at Sydney whose credibility has been questioned by many former cricketers and analysts. Like many other players, he was dropped again and then recalled for the South African series.
The 15-member Test squad announced for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 series includes four fast bowlers, Umar Gul, Sohail Tanvir, Tanvir Ahmad and Wahab Riaz. Selectors believed that Muhammad Sami has no place in the team with this kind of fast bowling attack. He can only be called if any one of the frontline bowlers gets injured.
