He has an undergrad in math, and is finishing his grad in math and engineering.

I really love him but he keeps mentioning that he is worried that he won't be able to find a job.

I keep assuring him that he will...but now I'm starting to wonder myself =S

I am starting college soon and getting a degree in international business so i know i'm going to make money....

but I don't want to be supporting the two of us><

So...are his chances at a good job...good?XD

he doesn't have much job experience except teaching so far><

Thank you^^

  1. Woman...you have no idea what is a degree in Math. Even more with a grad degree in Math and Engineering. He is going to make lots of money. Math and Engineering are the most sought after majors in the country. The entry level salary for an engineer is about $60K you are not going to make anywhere near that... and him with a grad degree will make even more. You will make around 45 to 50K and that is if you find a job with International Business which is not that great.

  2. He needs to start looking now- for internships, fellowships, and whatever enrty-level experience he can get before he graduates. He needs to find a volunteer website and see if there's somewhere he can volunteer to get experience. He has to try to get some experience before he graduates. He can't just go to school and hope for the best because there's a lot of competition.

  3. With a MS in an engineering field he'll get a good paying job an likely make more than you will with an international business degree unless you are going to a top level school and/or have extensive work experience.

Engineering degrees (at least at the bachelors level) provide the highest starting salaries of any degree. Grad degrees are somewhat different due to MD/JD/MBA degrees.

I am of course, assuming he is going to persue an engineering career.

  4. He's joking, right? I can't believe what a flexible degree combination this is. He can be everything from an insurance company actuary to a statistician to a researcher; he can work anywhere. Has he been to mathjobs.com to see all the job listings? There are pages and pages of jobs, not including teaching positions--that ought to give him an idea of how really valuable his skills are, and how much in demand he is. Do you know how few professions can translate so easily from state to state? He can work outside the country too, if your IB takes you to Europe. And that's just math: I didn't check out engineering employment. Has he thought about SAIC? There are worse places to live than San Diego. I would start checking on how to get a security clearance so he can say he's already a Level Whatever when he applies for a job. His advisor can help him. Oh, and does he like infrared technology? I know FLIR is doing great. Think of those stock options!

The guy's golden--he's going to have companies fighting over him!
