Will New York Jets sign QB Peyton Manning if he is a free agent?; owner says to look at everything - NFL News
Indianapolis Colts' star quarterback (QB), Peyton Manning, is set to become a subject of another controversy, following the comments of New York Jets' owner, Woody Johnson, that he would not rule out the idea of pursuing signing the QB, provided he becomes
available in the offseason.
The discussions around the possible recovery of Manning from his neck injury and return to play football for another season got another twist, a couple of days ago when actor, Rob Lowe tweeted that his people told him of Manning’s retirement, later in the
day.
His sensational tweets followed by a comment from the Jets' owner.
He was asked about the idea of chasing the four-time Most Valuable Player (MVP) if he is let free agent by the Colts by April this year, and he said he would "look at everything."
"I'm not going to ever tell what we may or may not do," he added.
Manning had earlier hit the rumours that he might prefer any other side over his team the Indianapolis Colts if returns next year to play football again. The New York Jets were one of the probable and hot spots in the possibility of his move.
It has been reported yet again that the Jets might be interested to take the QB on board if he is released by his team after payment of $28 million in bonus in March this year (2012).
The Jets neither confirmed nor denied nurturing of such hopes and ambitions both times. This leaves the option open for both the Jets and Peyton.
Peyton Manning himself has not expressed such a desire or plan as to moving elsewhere in the league. He has also not confirmed if he will continue to play with his team, the Colts.
The team owner, Jim Irsay, had earlier denied all such reports claiming that if Peyton Manning returns next year to play football another season it will be at the Indianapolis.
His comments came amid contradictory speculations about the player’s return to play in the 2011 National Football League (NFL) regular season.
Manning’s doctor allowed him to intensify his workout later in the year and there was optimism in the team that he might return at some point of time later in the season. Both the owner and team’s coach, Jim Caldwell, later discarded the possibility of his
return.
Peyton did not play a single game or practice during the entire 2011 regular season. There is no confirmation yet if he will be to fully recover from his neck injury and gain full strength to throw the ball.
It is his third surgery for same injury in last 19 months and a doubt is being expressed whether the player will be able to recover to its previous health and fitness.
The team owner and player are tight-lipped on the issue. This has led to further speculations and rumours increasing the uncertainty surrounding the football future of the player.
