edit: he said "oil from the Middle East"

this has a lot to do with Obama. Key Obama supporters in the Senate have advocated for allowing Russia to pursue its ambitions for "hegemony" over its former domains.

  1. Obama has said we need to work towards independence from FOREIGN oil.  Russia is a foreign country.

  2. The U.S. imports most of its oil from Canada, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, and Nigeria. It gets very little oil from Russia. Europe gets most of its oil from Russia... but I don't see what that has to do with Obama.

** Ooh, I understand the question now. I don't really know... I hope it comes up eventually, for McCain as well. I would love to hear their thoughts on the future of the complex relationship between Russia and the West. Very interesting question considering that the resurgent Russia is bound to become a very important issue in the near future.

  3. No. The oil dependence of which you speak will be under the control of Iran for at least a year after the election. Then it will become under the domination of Imperial Russia or Imperial China. Place your bet.

I will be too busy growing vegetables in my back yard to have any dogs in this fight. Hungry people don't get interested in such affairs...
