Question:

Will Obama speak out against slanderous remarks about Gov. Palin?

He sat in Rev. Wright's church for 20 years and never spoke out against those remarks. Which is worse -- that he never heard them, or that he ignored them?

What will he do today? Not hear them, or ignore them?

  1. I guess I can only say I am disappointed.  First of all, as a Jewish person we have an obligation to be sensitive to language, even if others aren't.  We have the moral obligation to be the light of the world, not push it further into darkness.  It is a shame when we forget that.

The term you want to use is an antiquated one, rife with negative connotations.  If it is deemed offensive to someone, it is offensive.  Why can't people use the word that rhymes with kite when describing us?  It is hurtful, that's why.   I shudder when I hear my people disparaging others based on the color of their skin, what they believe in, or whom they choose to spend their life with.  It's wrong. It's against our convictions.

Obviously, we don't agree on the next presidential candidate.  That aside, in response to your question; Obama has already stated he wants to focus on the issues, not the national enquirer.  He also, (I think), explained why he remained a member of that congregation to my satisfaction, AND how his politics and his faith aren't synonymous.  Rev. Wright is not a political adviser.

The things he does stand for are things worth fighting for, in my opinion.  I can't say John Mccain and Sarah Palin are on my side.  I just can't, as controversial as that may be on R&S.

  2. a) l'chaim, we have always seen eye-to-eye, but you're very out of line on this one.  Obama is a real candidate that offers real change.  If you're a republican, that's fine... but don't go making slanderous statements.

    b) Obama has already condemned the media and said that families, especially children, are and should be off limits.

  3. Yes, even though he's the one behind them.

Assuming he has half a brain and wants to appear gracious.

Oh right he's too damned arrogant for that.

  4. You won't hear him cracking jokes (like Palin's laughter/cackling laughter in a radio interview about her political opponent in Alaska who had cancer), using her daughter's pregnancy or otherwise making light of any personal information. . . not the way the GOP has done against him.   I do not subscribe to every one of my mentor's beliefs . . . and I do not think anything Rev. Wright has said or done is a reflection of who Barack Obama is.
