Will Odling and George Odling of Royal Signals win 2011 Osprey Inland Championships
Displaying a powerful sailing show on Rutland waters, Will and George Odling made the most of George’s weight on the wire and were able to hit the first podium spot after some impressive numbers on the board. At the conclusion of the regatta, the Odlings
were on first podium with nine points after five beats, which also included a discard race.
Weather conditions during the event were quite windy and shifty to provide some challenging and competitive sailing atmosphere to participants. The event began with bright autumn sunshine and a strong wind blowing up to Force 5 down the race course. The
forecast was 25 knots as the 23-boat fleet set sail in the second race.
As the breeze was too strong and challenging, there was a potential for collision during the races. During the third race, Datchet Water Sailing Club’s Paddy Lewis and Tom Holland had a collision with John and Carolyn Mills of Shoreham Sailing Club on the
start line. On the other hand, Richard and Mark Hartley collided with Mike Pickering and Mike Priddle in the first beat during the final race.
The winds dropped at the end of final race in the day with Mike Pickering winning the race ahead of Will and George Odling, while Richard Hartley and Mike Heartley finished third.
