(don't know why the details got flushed out, Y/A server update? but here they are....)

Probably 3 supreme court seats will be open in the next 4 years.

I can concede that as McCain has changed basically every position that he had over the last 2 years, he might be simply paying lip-service to the Pro-life crowd to get elected. He may have no intent in overturning Roe vs. Wade.

But the presidency is a hard job. A lot of presidents die. Clinton aged 20 years in the office. What if Palin ends up being president?

Palin seems very sincere in wanting to end all abortions. She does not beleive in abortions even for rape victims.

So... Will she overturn Roe v. Wade, bringing back the old days, if McCain wins?

  1. Palin CAN'T overturn Roe v. Wade.

Not unless she was getting a seat on the US Supreme Court and not the VP slot. She has no power on this front (she isn't even the one who proposes new Justices to the court, much less does she get a say in the actual matter herself).

  2. The Supreme Court would have to rule to overturn Roe v. Wade, not a vice-president.

  3. Only if she become president, nominates a pro-life justice, has the Senate confirm the pick, and a state court petitions the Supreme Court to rule on a case that would challenge the existing SC decision.

  4. McCain is the leader ... and the only one's who can overturn this is a majority of the Supreem Court.

  5. Only the supreme court can do that and even if they did it would only return the question back to the individual states.  Some see this as not only a pro-life issue, but a states rights issue as well.

  6. The next president will appoint at least two new Justices to the Supreme Court.  If McCain is president, he will appoint conservative Justices who will then make the conservative Justices a majority, and they will reverse Roe v. Wade.

Sarah Palin is a right wing conservative fundamentalist.  She would become the president if/when something were to happen to McCain.  She believes in teaching creationism in schools, abstinence only as a form of birth control, is against abortion, and is a member of the NRA.  She is not qualified to run our nation.

This election should be about our economy and who can do the best thing to fix it.  McCain has made it all about abortion.  I don't think he has our country's best interests at heart.  All he cares about is winning.

  7. She will surely try.

If she does, we will go back to girls dieing having illegal abortions, or trying to do it themselves, sticking a hanger up inside themselves.....

  8. No.  But maybe she can stop the killing of little babies as they take their first gasp of air.

Maybe she could encourage the baby killers to use birth control or the morning after pill.  Maybe she could encourage mothers to put up their children for adoption.  The dems are WAY to happy with their abortions.  I don't think that will ever stop.

With contraceptives everywhere, the morning after pill, easy sterilization, and no stigma for an unwed mother. (except of course Bristol)  I think we have surpassed the need for abortion.

  9. She will be the VP!! THE VP! For godssake...LEARN about your government before you go out to vote.

  10. She's not running to be president!!!!  Get your facts straight!

BTW, "Roe" (of Roe vs. Wade) is now PRO-LIFE, and goes around warning women about the dangers of abortion.

  11. A VP does not have that power neither does the President for that matter

  12. Palin will not have the authority to overturn Roe v Wade.

  13. Probably not, but will Obama demolish capitalism?

  14. How can a court ruling be overturned by one President.  Bush couldn't and didn't.

  15. It is not up to the VP. The Supreme Court can overturn it, but not the VP. It shouldn't even be a federal issue. It should be left for the states to decide on their own.

  16. She can't, but she would love to help pick supreme court justices who will.

  17. how can she, she is the v.p. only the pres can nominate supreme court justices and it still comes down to what the constitutuion says.

  18. I don't think so....   Abortions will always be around. Here is the real deal that no one wants to hear. I would guess that what,,, 75% or 80% of abortions are a result of consensual s*x. Not rape, not medical reasons, but good old fashioned s*x. So until women can keep their legs closed, or men can keep it in their pants, or people step up and use birth controls devices, abortions will be in demand. Period. There is nothing that can be done at this point to change that.

  19. If elected, yes.  Palin does not believe in abortion even in cases of rape, incest, fetal abnormality, or teen pregnancy.

This would be a major setback for women and women's rights.  I am not advocating abortion.  I just think that the mother has a right to make that decision.  If she chooses to end the pregnancy, it should be done in a safe environment.

If abortions are completely outlawed, there will be many performed illegally.

  20. The Supreme Court revisits ruling about every 75 years or so.  So Roe v Wade will likely be revisited around 2050.  She does not have power, and neither does the president, to overturn a Supreme Court ruling.

  21. Yes she will if elected so don't elect her abortion is a private decision that should remain between a woman and her doctor.

  22. she cant, she is not a judge. If given the oppurtunity I am sure McCain will nominate a conservative judge. Still does not mean they will overturn roe vs wade.

McCain is against over turning Roe vs wade, He thinks we need to address unwanted pregnancies, and that was his stance long before, Obama was in the high lights.

  23. Good to know that Rev is opposed to tell FEMALES what to do with their own bodies!

I hope Roe Vs. Wade is NOT overturnd. Talk about a step backwards!  Let women have a choice! Just because she and  other Repbs don't believe in it, doesn't mean the whole nation should live by these beliefs! If a Pro lifer doesn't want to have an abortion, then she has the right to keep it... what about Pro Choice people? We lose our rights all together.  I thought the Reps were about LESS government!? It doesn't sound like Less Government control to me.  Now they are taking over female wombs, too?

  24. She can't because that is the Supreme Court's job.  It's called checks and balances.  The only thing she can do is appoint a new judge, provided that an old judge dies and that McCain dies and Palin becomes president all within the next 4 years.  Very unlikely.

  25. if she is appointed to the supreme court maybe but that is a long shot for the appointment

  26. Do you really think that the Vice President has that much power?

  27. If McCain is elected president, most likely he will appoint replacements for at least one and possibly two liberal judges, so Roe v. Wade would likely be overruled.  That would then leave the issue of abortion up to the states.  The interesting question that people might want to ask McCain and Palin is what do they think should be the penalty for assisting in an abortion.  If they truly believe that a fertilized embryo is a human being, then they should come right out and say they want to prosecute for murder anyone who has  leftover embryos from in vitro fertilization procedures, not to mention doctors and nurses who perform abortions, not to mention teenage girls who make the difficult decision to have an abortion.

  28. No, only the President of the United States Of America can appoint Supreme Court Justices, and only a majority of that court can overturn a law.  And it takes an act of Congress to affirm the Presidents choice.  This is how our checks and balance system works.

  29. No vice President or President has the power to turn over a supreme court decision.  Only the Supreme Court can do that.

  30. No, she cannot but if McCain passes away or becomes unfit to serve as POTUS, and a Justice leaves the Supreme Court, she will nominate a judge that would vote anti-choice if given the opportunity.

  31. Well as VP she can't do that but I would hope she would have some sort of influence, but hasn't Mccain already stated that he would appoint judges that would overturn it?
