did you read what's written?  Kim hughes's captaincy wasn't as succesful as Ricky ponting's, Ponting won 16 consecutive test match and won world cup while Kim hughes didn't...  no comparison there Ricky Ponting is a champion..

Ponting is a master strategist, he was out of focus and the board found to be a suitable captain.  He is able to manage his team along with his batting.  It is very rare to succeed as a captain and player.  See the no of failures like Sachin, Gavaskar, Botham, Lara, etc examples are innumerable success are very few.  Comparing him to Hughes is unfair.

If you read the whole of Kim's profile, you will see that it was mentioned he was victimised for his part in the WSC vACB 'carry-on. He chose to stick with ACB & was bad-mouth by the likes of Rodney Marsh, the Chappells & other senior Aussie players, who were not so loyal to their board. Their treatment of him was very unfair & resulted in an unsettling & spiteful torrent of abuse from the players mentioned. I have detested Chappell(Ian) & Marsh ever since. Kim was a lovely guy & deserved a fair go, but he didn't get it.Having said all of that, I fail to see how Ponting can be compared to Hughes in any way?Surely Ponting has the most successful record of  cricket captains ever? How then, can he 'end up' like Hughes?

What happened with Kim Hughes is sad but i don't think that will happen to Ponting.

It's hard to comment on retirement.He is fit to play for next 5 years but it's the form that matters and not the fitness and the Australian selectors have been very ruthless in the past/So you never know.

I think he will himself quit when the time will be right.
