Will Regal Parade be able to finish off 2012 season on high?
Regal Parade’s hard work finally paid off in mid October, when he registered first win of the season at York. His success came after a long struggle. The son of Pivotal was last seen on the winning podium in August 2010. He remained unlucky throughout the
last season, but ran a few good races.
His misery continued this season. The 8-year-old went close on a number of occasions, but missed the trick every time. In September, the talented runner narrowly missed the glory twice.
After finishing second at Bath, he could not add the finishing touch, and missed the gold by two and a half lengths at Ayr. After two back-to-back runner-up positions, the Dab Hand Racing-owned was expected to break the shackles at Royal Ascot, but he failed
terribly.
In the Betfred Challenge Cup (Heritage Handicap), the gelding could only seize the 10th place behind Skilful. After collecting plenty of embarrassment, he finally got it right at York. The Coral Sprint Trophy (Handicap) saw him beating Louis The
Pious by a short head’s distance.
Despite a lazy start, he did not let things turn worse. He stayed on strongly inside the final furlong, and edged left in the last 100 yards. With the help of a wonderful finish, the Milton Bradley-trained unchained the shackles, and tasted success after
more than two years.
Having regained winning momentum, Regal Parade’s next objective is to finish off this season on a good note. His camp is aware of the fact that not many options are available. The connections are looking for a Listed Race at Doncaster to wrap up the proceedings.
After enjoying the glory at York, Bradley said: “He’s as bright as a button and we were very pleased with him. He ran a very good race and he had so much ground to make up, but he seems to like being ridden like that.”
He continued: “He might go to Doncaster in a fortnight for a Listed race now. There aren’t many options left at this time of year. He’s a great horse and he never seems to have any wear and tear on him after a race.”
Although things have never been consistent for the dual Group One-winner, one can expect him to sign out with a bang. Regal Parade is currently in good shape, and there is no reason why he should not offer more.
