Question:

Will Republicans Reframe This Election Around Old Style "Culture Wars?"?

The Republican attempt to reframe this election around old style "culture war" politics won't have the same effect it did under Reagan and the Bushes because:

1. We've seen it all before. You can thank Carl Rove for overdosing the public on "swiftboating" and "character assignation" to the point we all recognise it and are sick of it.

2. The Republicans have been in charge for quite a while and their record has been abysmal - economically, internationally and culturally. Torture and the Jack Abramoff expose' blew the lid off any Republican claim to morality.

3. There are real issues out there that are really affecting real people. Name calling isn't going to bring jobs to Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylviania or anywhere. Fighting for teaching creationism in schools isn't going to make health care affordable. Wearing cowboy hats isn't going to balance our budget. Old McCain war stories aren't going to stop torture or bring honor back to the USA or Osama Ben Laden to justice.

So let this storm over Sarah Palin settle down and let's get back to these real issues so President Obama and Vice President Biden can work with ALL Americans to fix them.

  1. It's all they've got to work with, sadly.  And it always works.  Hopefully, there are enough people voting this time who won't be falling for it.

  2. Culture warfare is a tenet of the democrats. Don't forget their tax rhetoric. And sexism is rampant in the democrat party. What they did to Hillary was terrible and now they are trying it on Palin. It will not work.
