  1. I hope not!

  2. Well, although it seems inevitable now, Federer still will not lose his #1 Ranking, YET. It now depends on how they fare at the Cincinnati Masters.

  3. Unfortunately, it is inevitable....Nadal has hunger in his eyes, and this is the closest he has been to take #1.  Dont know when, but will happen before the end of the year.

  4. Josh gave a wonderful explanation, and had almost everything correct.  However, Federer lost in the second round at the Rogers Cup with a first round bye, which means he only gets 5 points for the tournament, and because he had 350 points last year, he loses 345 points, putting him down to 6255 points.  Nadal has successfully defended his 225 points from being a semifinalist last year, but even if he wins this year, he only gets 275 more points, which would put him at 6105.  The difference is only 150, which means even if Federer wins his first Masters Series of the year in Cincinnati, Nadal only would need to be a quarterfinalist to be the new #1.

However, we cannot take for granted that Nadal will win the Rogers Cup yet, as he has a relatively tricky opponent in Andrew Murray to worry about first.  As nice of a person as Federer is, I'll be rooting for Nadal to take the new #1, as it'll be good to see a new face at the top of the rankings.

    VAMOS RAFA!

  5. Well...It depends. Federer still is the one with the most points out there, and If he does well in Cinncinatti, he will keep his ranking. Nadal is really close though, and has a super big chance of taking over in the next 9 months. I wonder if Federer is going to go far in the U.S open...

  6. No,  if Nadal wins tonight and tomorrow he will have 500 points at this event to Rogers 35. This means that federer's ranking points will reduce from 350 (last years result) to 35, losing 315 points. Nadal will improve from 225 to 500, so he would be closer.

Last year at the follow-up tournament Nadal went out second round and Federer won the Tournament meaning Nadal had 35 points to defend and Federer 500, therefore theoretically Nadal can only gain and Federer defend or los points, so even if Federer wins the title again he may stil lose his ranking if Nadal also does well.

However, because of this year's calendar changes due to the Olympics, everyone will retain their number of points they accumulated last year and will still gain points this year. So Nadal may have "got" the number 1 ranking but has to wait for the points to come off for it to be official. (you might not understand that bit)

  7. I think to pass Federer Nadal has to win the final of Rogers Cup.  And Roger lost in the seconde round not the first one.  In the first round he got a bye.

  8. No how.

  9. no, not yet, nadal has to do well in cincinnati too
