Will Romain Grosjean be able to hit back in 2013? – Formula 1
Lotus driver Romain Grosjean seems to be more matured after a struggling end to this year and is targeting to hit back in the 2013 Formula 1 season.
Grosjean has been considered as one of the finest young drivers in the field. He came back to F1 with the Enstone based team in this season.
Even though, he had a very disappointing start as he was retired in the opening two races even after performing well during the qualifying. Nevertheless, he made a good come back in the Chinese Grand Prix in which he secured 6th place finish after
qualifying for 10th grid slot.
Afterwards, he surprised everyone with his performance in the Bahrain GP as he secured an incredible third podium finish after setting off from 7th grid position.
The Frenchman secured three podium finishes in this season. However, he faced immense criticism over his poor driving style due to which many accidents happened.
It is to be note that he was even banned for one race after the causing a severe accident because of which Lewis Hamilton, Sergio Perez and Fernando Alonso, also faced retirements.
The 26-year-old secured 8th place finish in the drivers’ championship with 96 points. Besides, he stayed ahead of his main rival, Nico Rosberg of Mercedes and behind Felipe Massa of Ferrari.
On the other hand, his teammate, Kimi Raikkonen performed impressively well throughout the season and managed to score points with tremendous consistency for his team.
The Finnish secured third place finish in the drivers’ standings with 207 points. Additionally, he stayed ahead of his major competitor, Hamilton and behind Alonso.
The British squad struggled with their qualifying pace throughout the year due to which their drivers could not secure higher grid slots. Nevertheless, they will hopefully improve their qualifying pace during the winter testing in order to come up stronger
in the next season so as to attain better results right from the start.
It will be interesting to mention that Grosjean’s race seat has been recently confirmed at Lotus for the coming year and he is positively looking forward to perform well for his team after facing a bunch of retirements and penalties in this season.
Moreover, he has said that his aim is to win a race in the next season for which he is preparing himself. He also said that he has learnt a lot from his mistakes in this season and is earnestly aiming to strike back in the coming year.
Additionally, he said that he will have to perform well in the next season as he has no rookie excuse left after this year.
“I wanted to get that first win at all costs and I made beginner's mistakes by wanting to go too fast at times,” Grosjean told to France's Sport24 website, “These are things that I will not repeat.”
“It was my first full year and, if someone had told me that I'd finish eighth in the standings, with three podiums, I would have signed immediately. There are some very good, some very bad, but I'm trying to keep positive,” he said.
Furthermore, he said that it was a very long season in which he had to adapt to numerous things.
“Frankly, in many areas,” he admitted, “In the mind, the management of the season, fatigue, the settings of the car.”
