Will Safina win the French?

Question

I can't believe Kuznetsova just gave up, but the serb match was superb, though I wanted Jankovic to win it. Can Safina beat Ivanovic on clay? I say it's a stretch, but emotionally Ivanovic can beat herself at times. I still can't believe Ivanovic is #1, theyre are some hot tennis players up at the top now.

Oh for this match, i say throw the whole head-to-head thing out the window, while u are at it, don bother with the grandslam experience thing bcoz that girl[Safina] is definitely NOT a choker[like Ivanovic choked last year against Henin in the final].

Its gonna come down to their game[thats assuming Ivanovic doesn't get consumed by nerves bcoz trust me, she can be a choker at times]..

Game wise, i think Ivanovic has the game to beat Safina. But don count off Safina.

Look out for this scenario:  Ivanovic serves for the match at, say 5-3 2nd set and all of a sudden the nerves kick in, she starts thinking of finally winning a slam, this courses her to make unforced errors and Safina sees an opening.We all know what she does when an opprtunity opens.She then gets all over Ivanovic, meanwhile Ivanovic freaks out and Safina takes over.Eventually closing the match at 6-3 3rd set after failing to close it at 6-1..

While I think that Safina has played well in this tournament I don't believe that she will win. Ana has grand slam final experience and I think that it'll help her in then end. Dinara will get nervous and make too many mistakes. Ana will win and it'll be in straight sets.

no, because Ivan has the grandslam fnal experience, leads in the head to heads and, whilst Safina has played well, even above her level, Ivan is one top 10 player to far.

It is more than a possibility.  I am an Ivanovic fan but couldn't be happier that both of these girls have made the final.  They are sweet, humble and very worthy.  I'm so happy for Safina to have made it so far.  I would be happy with either winning and think it will be a fantastic match to watch.

on paper ivanovic looks more likely to win it.... and is higher up in the rankings the better play supposedly.....

but, safina has been just sparkling the past few weeks.. beating serena and the now retired justine henin.. she has ousted out sharpova, demeteva, and kuznetsova........ so she must be brewing with confidence......

i think when safina gets to the final.. she will know this is it, and for her its now or never... ivanovic on the other hand will have the pressure of winning and keeping her form.

I am actually rooting for any russians especially on ladies singles since the great Steffi Graf retired. I don't know why but i am always looking forward for russian to win & it's no difference for RG 2008, so definitely i am rooting for Safina to win it. By the way, she got an awesome two-hand backhand as well as forehand....she just need to work on her movement but guess it's much better compared to some others top players...so my favourite to win RG 2008 is definitely Safina at 60:40...

Safina is going to win.  She is stronger mentally and physically after those two comebacks against Sharapova and Demetieva she is not going to hold back on Saturday.  She has nothing to lose.  Ivanovic is the one who has to come ready to play as she tends to get nervous which  I don't think will bother Safina at all.  She is ready for the big time now.  Kuznetsova tends to let her nerves get the better of her all the time.  She is such a great player not to be able to handle her nerves.

She has a huge shot, shes beaten Sharapova and Kutzetsova, and I still don't think Ana is a deserved number one. Sure, shes got a good forehand, but the girl has no variety. If Safina plays her tactics well and doesn't just try to outrally her (maybe try to bring her to net) I think she'll win it. Not to mention Jankovic could have won but lacks the power, Safina doesn't. Safina has also proven shes extremly strong mentally (which obviously doesn't run in the family) and she has less to lose. Ivanovic has a tendancy to crack bad. So I'm picking Safina in three.

Definitely! Since beating Henin and Serena in Berlin, she's kinda undefeatable. Maria, Elena, and Svetlana were the proofs. And I do believe she will handle Ivanovic very well, and winning her first Grand Slam title, as long as she plays the way she played recently. I always have faith for her since the first time I saw her playing. Go Dinara!

I personally think Ana will win it. She deserves to be #1 in the world in clay, but not in other surfaces. She's not really #1 in the world, but she's #1 in clay. I like both players, and hope it will be a great match, but I think Ana will win it. She has more experience than Safina.

last night, i watched her match against jankovic....

it was amazing for her, she moved very well and really fast... she know how to play long rallies and her defenders also improved so much... she keep strong and patience... she didn't  give up yet and serve very powerful and i think her confidence level is enough to get her first grand slam title..
