Will San Diego Padres be watchable? Experts pose questions
The San Diego Padres have come a long way this offseason to overcome a drastic talent drought that caused them several important games last season as they recently added some very good players in order to compete well in the upcoming Major League season.
But with all these roster improvements, the experts are still not convinced that whether or not the Padres have enough power to give a competitive challenge to their rivals especially in their own division. These experts are posing some significant questions in the media on the credibility of Padres’ new signings and roster rotation.
On certain accounts, these experts might be saying right, but on the whole, before 2012 MLB season, any prediction can be of little insignificant. Lately, the Padres' general manager Josh Byrnes, who looked somewhat confident for his team’s preparations for next season, spoke on these speculations which are creating some buzz in public. He told the media in reference to next season’s planning and new signings’ impact on the franchise.
Byrnes said, “Yeah, it just never got going, we lost a lot of close games and didn’t hit most of the year. There was no vibe around the team. It’s a chicken and egg thing — does winning lead to chemistry or does chemistry lead to winning? Whatever, we didn’t have it. I can see a little more hunger and determination with this group. Chemistry is important, but it’s hard to create on a dry eraser board. Baseball is such a failure game. How do you respond? We’ve brought in some guys who are going to help.”
Looking at last season’s performance, the Padres won 71 games. They were very close to take this winning record on further heights if they could have won those particular ten to twelve games which they lost with little margins at the very end of the regular season.
However, not only the Padres GM, but also some other executives of the franchise recognise this fact now as they have made some decent changes regarding bringing new players. The Spring Training sessions are about to begin in Arizona as anybody can guess the Padres’ potential standing ahead of the 2012 Major League regular season.
