Will Sebastian Vettel move to Ferrari in the 2014 season? – Formula 1 special
The situation went normal after the decision of the Michael Schumacher of getting retired after the 2012 Formula 1 season until a new rumour broke that Sebastian Vettel might join Ferrari in 2014 season however the rumour was well answered by both Red Bull Racing and Ferrari teams.
The president of Ferrari, Luca di Montezemolo has denied the rumours of signing a contract with Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing for the 2014 season. He told that he does not want rivalries in the team which are created when two veteran drivers driving in the same team.
He believes that hiring two great drivers create instabilities in the team which he wants to avoid and added that he would prefer two drivers who drive for the team rather than driving for themselves.
Montezemolo told Italy’s Rai radio, “I've always said that I don't want two roosters in the hen-house. I don't like that and it creates instability in the team. [I would] rather two drivers who race for Ferrari and not for themselves.”
We can anticipate that if two great drivers join a single team how disturbing it can be. Ferrari might become an invincible team in terms of both Constructors’ and Drivers’ championship if such thing happens. It was said that Vettel will be replacing Felipe Massa in the 2014 season.
Yes, we can find clues in support of Vettel joining Ferrari in 2014 because Montezemolo also said, “Undoubtedly, at half-season it was unthinkable to reconfirm Massa; now he's meeting our expectations, tomorrow we'll discuss it and then we'll take the decision. Massa performed very well in Monza and in Japan; it is a Massa reborn.”
If we go in history we could recall that it was not long ago when Montezemolo was complaining about the performances of the Brazilian driver. He said that Massa needs to prove his strength over the circuit however even this stance of the team president has been clarified as he said that it was not possible for the team to sign a new contract in a midst of the season with him. He further believes that the Brazilian driver has proved his strength over the circuit and now meets the expectations of the team.
Montezemolo further said that Massa might not have been able to perform impressively because in the beginning of the current season the car was such that it was not suitable for the Brazilian driver. Massa has gained a lot of sport by one of the best drivers of Formula 1 and it was expected that it would be hard to find someone as a replacement for Massa. Indeed this contract took a long time to get confirmed.
On the other hand, if Vettel joins Ferrari to race with Alonso it will be something ‘devastating’ for the sport. We call it devastating because currently these are the two drivers very prominent in the contention of the championship title. The difference in their cars makes a lot of difference over the circuit. We believe that the veteran drivers in different teams make teams further competitive as in that case they involve their crew as well. If the car lacks in delivering the performance the team suffers and this is the time when other teams get opportunity to excel. Imagine if both drivers drive for Ferrari and Ferrari is not competitive enough on a particular circuit then both of them will suffer in terms of their Drivers’ championship. This may consequently cause instability in championship.
