Will Sharmila Nicollet stun everyone in 2013?
Sharmila Nicollet, the Indian golf professional who has made a mark on the Ladies European Tour, became one of the top Indian contenders on the Tour.
Nicollet has taken the Indian golfing community with a storm by showing some excellent results on the Tour. At such a tender age, the Indian golfer has made headlines. She brings charisma to the Tour with the way she plays and puts India on the map.
Nicollet has returned to the new season of the Ladies European Tour by showing excellent results on the five-round Lalla Aicha Tour School Final Stage.
Top 30 golfers at the end of the tournament were given their tour cards. Nicollet finished at nine-under and made her place among the top thirty to secure the tour card.
Meanwhile, the Thai golfer, Ariya Jutanugarn earned her LET Tour card by placing exceptionally well during the Lalla Aicha Tour School Final Stage.
The 17-year-old went on to win the tournament with a five-shot advantage over the English golfer, Emily Taylor, who shared the second place with an Australian, Nikki Campbell.
Jutanugarn dominated throughout the tournament and did not come under any sort of pressure or threats posed by the other contenders.
Nicollet was overjoyed to know that she had secured her LET Tour card.
While commenting on the occasion she said, "I’m just overwhelmed right now with excitement. Last year, I qualified and this year being the only Indian, I’m quite upset that there are not many other Indians that qualified, I wanted a whole group to be in,
but I’m super-happy that I managed to get in".
The Indian reflected on her 2012 season performance and said, “I learned a lot last year and I know what not to do, what to do, and where to improve. I think my approach has made a few changes and it’s showing”.
Nicollet is, however, fairly new to the Tour and cannot be compared to the veterans of the tour, or for that matter the young guns on the LET Tour.
She might stand a chance if she pursues her career in any format other than the professional level because there are golfers on the professional who are more talented and determined than she is.
