  1. No company will warranty a crash failure. Warranties are to protect against defects in materials and workmanship, not wrecks.

SOME of their higher end stuff- I believe- has a crash replacement policy where you can buy a new frame for less than retail but you'll have to check your exact model and the policy..

EDIT: Want to lose your dealership? Replace a crashed frame under warranty. Just because you tell the company that the frame is broken and they replace it doesn't mean they warranty crashed frames... it means you didn't tell them what happened. Hm... maybe I'll let Tracy at KHS know that someone is warrantying crashed frames....

  2. Silenus said it best, All depends on the circumstances.

    They might,

It depends on whether the break was caused buy normal use (would mean there was a defect of some sort causing the failure) or abuse.

    Abuse is not warrantied.

More than likely you will have to take it to the shop you bought it at and have them get in touch with the rep.

They may want the frame sent it for inspection.

    2 thumbs down :(

I have personally warrantied four frames, and Never paid for anything but the shipping cost. Say what you will, I only know what I have personally done.

    (EDIT)

These were my personal frames, that where inspected by reps over the last ten years or so. These were all weld issues.

Gary Fisher Sugar ( broke rear triangle)

    2 KHS frames

    Intense rear triangle

Also had a buddy break the top tube and seat tube off an KHS FXT trail. (low end KHS bike)  We drove down to KHS here in So. California  and they held it up in the office for everyone to see.

Replaced the frame at now charge.

In the bike shop I work at, we have things come in that we tell the customer will not be warrantied, they pitch a big fit and the rep warranties it.

Its really up to the rep.

  3. Normally they only replace things if they fail because of a manufacturing fault.  I think it would be difficult to prove that if it broke in a crash.

All depends on the exact circumstances really.
