Question:

Will The Army Reimburse My Flight Costs?

I'm supposed to report to Fort Hood at the beginning of next week. The Army gave me an itinerary for a flight going from Atlanta to Kileen (Ft. Hood) but they didn't give me any ticket that would allow me to get from my home state (Maine) to Atlanta. I guess I have to buy the ticket myself which is going to be pretty pricey on just a few days notice. When I get to my duty station will the Army reimburse me for my flight costs - the cost of flying from Maine to Atlanta?

Thanks

  1. no.  they will only transport you from one duty station to another.  any interim flights are yours to bear the cost of.

  2. buckshot -

I think you left out an awful lot of pertinent information.  Judging from some of your previous questions, it seems you were stationed at Ft Benning and got orders for Ft Hood.  I'll bet you took leave and went to Maine.  The Army would pay you for leave travel.  That is an out-of-pocket expense for all military.  They pay your way from duty station to duty station.  Any deviation in travel (with some specific exceptions, but not in your case) is borned by the service member.

So short answer is no, they won't reimburse your for your flight costs.  They are only going to finance your trip from Ft Benning to Atlanta and then on to Ft Hood (Kileen TX).

good luck and thanks for serving

  3. go to the nearest army base and see the travel department did you plan to leave from maine if so you should have told them that you were flying from home of record. how did you get to maine?

  4. I assume you were stationed in Atlanta? With that being said, the govt is only responsible for your ticket from your former duty station to your next.  What will happen is you will buy a ticket from Maine to Fort Hood, and then when you do your travel claim you will turn in your unused ticket and you will be entitled to that money, you are responsible for the difference.  OR you can take that ticket to the airport, pay to change it and pay the difference between Maine and Ft Hood
