  1. Heres how i view the NL East:

    Ranked by skill "on paper":

    1. Mets

    2. Phillies

    3. Marlins

    Ranked by performance/consistency:

    1. Marlins

    2. Phillies

    3. Mets

    Mets:

the Mets have the best team on paper, i don't think you can argue that. Delgado's a proven bat at first, Reyes proven as one of the best run scorers in the game, Wright could be the best 3b in the NL, Beltran is underachieving but, as I said before, on paper he's pretty good. Their starting rotation is the best on paper as well. Johan's the best ace in the divison. Oliver Perez has a rookie of the year award in his not too distant past and has flashes of dominance. John Maine established himself as a solid pitcher last year. Pelfrey is establishing himself this year. and Pedro isn't the Pedro of old, but I think any team in baseball would take Pedro at the end of their rotation.

the problem with the Mets is the game isn't played on paper. Johan has been the best ace in the division, but they don't score for him. Delgado has had the streaky bat that was promised from him, including months of hot streaks. Wright has been solid all year. Reyes as well. But they don't produce together. the bullpen is a mystery. Sanchez has an era of 3.65, Smith 4.31, Wagner 2.30, Schoeneweis 3.09 and Feliciano 3.68. none of them terrible except Heilman's 5.74, yet the 6 of them have lost a way to collectively lost 16 games. it seems every night one of them screws up. in short, the team just can't produce together.

    Phillies:

the Phillies have a similar situation to the Mets if you ask me. their team is better on paper. i still think on paper the Mets have the better offense and the Mets certainly have the better rotation. the Phillies also have consistency issues, but at least they are consistent in that if they get the ball to Lidge with a lead the game is over. that's more than the Mets can say.

    Marlins:

the Marlins are the most consistent team of the three by far. the good? the consistently crush the ball at the plate. the problem? they also consistently make errors, and have pitching issues.

ultimately, i think it's going to the Mets, but if the Phillies offense solves their consistency issue first, their tier 1 closer could carry them to the division lead.

as a Met fan, i still think we need to take 3 leads into the 8th inning to get 2 victories. the Phillies haven't had that problem.

  2. Tough to decide because Phillies have a chance and so do the Marlins i'm not counting the Mets out but there bullpen needs to step it up to go to win the division and playoffs.

  3. nope. Their bullpen is weak and there starting pitching is shaky. It will either be won by the Marlins or Phillies.

  4. IN REALITY OUR BULLPEN IS BULLSHIT N IF WE CAN BARLEY CLOSE GAMES  AGAINST LOSING TEAMS WHAT MAKES YOU THINK WE CAN WIN PLAYOFF GAMES? THIS SEASON IS A BUST ITS A SHOCKER IF WE WIN MORE THAN 90 GAMES.

  5. Yes the Mets will win the division, but the division won't be won in august.

The marlins  pitching will fade everytually.  Don't have any defense whatsoever either. They strike out too much, but you can count on them to be a force within the next few yrs.

The phillies seem to be inconsistent, with a weaker starting rotation, and a slowly fading bullpen ( i.e loss of Tom Gordon, and Scott Eyre won't help matters).

The Mets have excellent starting pitching, good defense, and an offense that can be just as explosive as the phillies.

Oh, and the Mets players seem to have a good chemistry within the clubhouse now, where as the phillies are leaning towards the opposite. ( I.e Jimmy disses the fans, Brett Myers gets into an arguement with Charlie M. )

  6. I think they have a shot.  Actually a really good one.  It'll either be them or the Phillies.

  7. yes because the marlins wont hold out that long and the ok pitching the phillies have will not hold out either

  8. I am a life long Mets fan.. I hope we do..

  9. Absolutley not.  The Phillies, while they need pitching, are the better team.  The Mets have no baseball character.  Jose Reyes doesn't run out ground balls, and the Mets don't seem like they have the same desire to win that the Phillies do.  The bullpen could also use some work and they need to take more advantage of Santana's quality starts.  They are tied for the lead now, but whenever they get close they fall back down.  Expect the Phillies to win the division, and the Mets to miss the playoffs.  Unfortunatley for Mets fans, the wild card will be from the central.

  10. Yes. Overall, their pitching staff looks better than Philadelphia's.
