A friend of mine is a website designer and I am a writer. We are thinking of starting a website design/ ad agency. One of the services we are thinking of offering is website hosting. My friend has Time Warner for internet access. Will they allow you use your own server for web hosting and access the internet through their connection?

Thanks in advance for your help.

  1. Yes. I do this. You can even use port 80.

  2. You should be able to, but if they find out, they may make you upgrade to Business Class. Also, you would need to set up a web server and a bunch of junk which would possibly be difficult for you.

You would also need a static IP address.

I really wouldn't recommend starting a web hosting company on a home Internet Connection. It has a very slow upload speed. I would recommend looking into getting a reseller account somewhere like http://hostgator.com or http://bihira.com
