Will Tomlinson all set to defend title against Mexican Daniel Ruiz – Boxing News
Will Tomlinson, the current International Boxing Organization super featherweight champion, will enter the ring to defend his newly acquired title for the very first time against Mexican proud, Daniel Ruiz, the former WBC Latino super featherweight champion,
in a 12-round bout to be held on Friday May 18, 2012.
The duo will headline the Friday night showdown which is being organised and promoted by Barry Michael of Barry Michael Sports. The ring for the bout will be setup at The Melbourne Pavilion situated in Flemington, Victoria, Australia and the event will be
co-headlined by the non-title 10-round bout between Blake Caparello and Robert Berridge.
Will, 25, is a surging Aussie pugilist who has been in a total 19 bouts and boasts an undefeated win streak. In addition to the IBO super featherweight title, Tomlinson also owns the WBO Oriental and WBO Asia Pacific super featherweight titles as well.
Apart from the intimidating win streak, Will, also known as ‘The Wild Will’, possesses an impressive knockout ratio as well. Will has nailed 12 of his total opponents by knockout and recently nailed heavily experienced Alan Herrera to grab the vacant IBO
super featherweight.
His opponent, Daniel, has been in a total 32 bouts and emerged victorious in 27. He has nailed 19 of his opponents by knockout and is on a four-bout win streak since his last loss to Logan McGuinness.
Also known as ‘The Canerito’, the Mexican proud is coming from a unanimous decision win over Mario Perez. As far as the stats are concerned, Will possesses a clear upper hand over Daniel.
Tomlinson not only has a better win ratio but also possesses decent knockout ability. The only facet that will aid Daniel and will motivate him during the bout with Will is his experience.
If Daniel optimally capitalises his experience and copes with Will’s agility and footwork, it is probable that he might gift the young lad his career’s first ever defeat. During the recent media interaction, Will shared his resolve and commented, “I’ll be
the little strong man on the night. I’ve been waiting for a big fight like this for four years and I’m ready to go. All the lights are shining on me and I’m planning on making the most of the situation. I won’t let the big stage and the bright lights put me
off.”
The bout will be a toe-to-toe to one since both men have their respective interests at stake. Daniel, to some extent, has a golden chance to make a huge comeback in the top ranks of the division but Tomlinson will not easily give away his streak and title.
