Will Vince Young be starting quarter-back next season?
One of the most notable players this National Football League season is Vince Young, quarter-back for the Tennessee Titans. But no, it is not in a good way that he will be remembered. How could you be remembered in a good way? Look at all of the things that
he has done.
First of all, he started as quarter-back in the first ten games of the regular season, winning half and losing half.
Besides his poor performance, his sportsmanship is a real issue. In a loss to the Washington Redskins in Week 11 of the regular season, Young tore the flexor tendon in the thumb of his right hand and wanted to go back in. However, the coach at the time,
Jeff Fisher, did not send him back in. After the game, Young took off his shoulder pads and jersey and threw them into the stands. Following this incident, he went to the locker room and had a heated argument with Fisher in front of the entire team and then
stormed out of the room.
Shortly after the game, Fisher said that the starting quarter-back position would be taken away from Young and given to Rusty Smith instead. On 5 January, 2011, Titans’ owner Bud Adams said that Young would be traded or released before the start of the 2011
NFL season. But the real question is, will Vince Young be a starting quarter-back anywhere in the 2011 season?
The Tennessee Titans will probably trade him and there are two teams that come to mind where he could go to start at the quarter-back position. The two teams are the Minnesota Vikings and Carolina Panthers. The reason why, is because the common denominator
is their running game. If you know anything about football, you know that there is some factor that will make your running game better, but what that factor is differs with each and every team in the NFL.
I would be surprised if those two teams did not display any interest in acquiring Young. The thing is that Young can become a starting quarter-back in 2011. The real question is whether or not he will be able to hold onto that starting position once he earns
it. Anyone can play well in the pre-season, but Young has found it very difficult to play well when adversity sets in. In the regular season, he has struggled and that is going to be the first step for Young to prove that he can handle that challenge and still
lead his team through the full 2011 season as a starter.
However, it could be that all Young needs is a change of scenery. We all know that this guy can play football. He can throw, he can run and he can do everything that he is asked to do. Just not in Tennessee. A change of scenery has done wonderful things
for players and it looks as though Young has run his course in Tennessee and it is time to move on.
Young needs to be somewhere where he can continue to develop as a person and a player, especially home in Houston. If he does so, his personal life will become stable which will directly affect his playing, just as his rocky personal life has led to a disappointing
season. “VY” was born in Houston although the Texans probably will not like this idea. They already have Matt Schaub as their starting quarter-back and probably will not want to give him up for Young.
Whether or not Young will be a starting quarter-back will be determined as soon as teams show interest in acquiring him. After all, they are not going to trade for him and just have him sit on the bench the whole time. The Vikings and Panthers both need
a good quarter-back, although the Panthers may draft one, seeing as they have the Number one overall pick in April’s NFL Draft. Only time will tell though. Will Young be released? Traded maybe? And for who or what will he be traded for? Keep checking in to
find out.
