Will taking a scoop of Whey protein mixed with water keep me from going into a catabolic (muscle-burning) state for 3 hours until I eat a meal with sufficient protein? Is only Casein able to do that?

  1. u wouldnt overdose on calcium i have 4-5glassesof milk a day  i havent had any problems my doctor recommended it actually i had a nutritionist that's how i know alot about food :) and whey alone for 3 hrs well the thing is it digests very fast and get's to the muscles in 15 minutes right that doesnt mean its not in ur system anymore it's just not refueling but those 20-30g protein w/e u get from it will fuel ur muscles and not deplead them as long as u have sufficent cals which 1 scoop of whey wouldnt usually be enough cals for 3hrs u know like the guy said about healthy fats that's a good ida cuz fats slow down the process of how all foods digest having natural peanut butter on wheat toast with it is a good idea or a handful of almonds avacados something hope ive helped ya man

  2. only casein

unless you mix it with like raw eggs natural peanut butter and whole or 2 percent milk

    it wont digest as fast

  3. Yeah, it will work. If you want, mix the whey with milk because milk contains casein protein, The whey protein is great because it's a fast acting protein, while casein is absorbed slower, but with only 3 hours until your next meal, you will be fine. The milk will also fill you more along with adding a little more protein.

  4. Yes whey is sufficient and will hold you for three hours.  It is a fast digesting protein (~30 minutes) but that is important for other reasons.  In an ideal setting you will need to feed your body a protein source every 3 hours.

If you are looking to slow the digestion of the whey, add a little bit of good fats, good but not necessary if you are getting your fats at other times.

The only two times that I would recommend the casein would be post workout (combined with whey) and immediately before bed.

    EDIT:

Taking whey as your lone source of protein - yes, this is fine.  Combine this with a compelx or natural carb.  As far as the fats, look at your essential fatty acids or a source of unsaturated fats.  Flax seed oil is a prime staple that can be used in your shake as an EFA source.  If you are going to blend in fruit of any kind, the suggestion for natural peanut butter (watch the labels here) is also a good one.

I would agree with you on the milk side of things as milk also but not on the calcium issue.  Milk has a high carb ratio that is primarily sugar.  If you are already drinking milk several times per day, this needs to be factored into the nutritional timing as well as your macro ratios.  If you aren't already, look at moving to skim milk.

    Good luck!!
