Will XM Radios or other satellite radios work abroad?

I will be going abroad (To Israel) during the month of march. I would like to purchase a radio that I could use to listen to games of the NCAA Tournament. I'm pretty sure I can subscribe and it would have all of the games, but will it work abroad? Thanks. If not, any suggestions how to listen to the games without a laptop, like Sirius radio or something? Thanks again.

  1. Satellites do care as XM and Sirius is only available in the US and Canada because the birds they use only aim their signal at North America and no where's else.

Outside a laptop, only if the area you are going to has AFRTS or Armed Forces Radio Television Service in the area will you hear it. It's a broadcast station that our US government sets up for GIs to hear music and sports from back home.

Only other way would be one of the cable stations carrying it...

  2. They connect to satellites.  Satellites don't care what country you're in.  As long as you can see the sky, you should be able to connect.
