Well even though the bronx bombers are a LITTLE off the race to playoffs, they still have a chance to make it to the playoffs. RIGHT ? That is my opinion even though i know that they're probably not going to be in the playoffs all because of the stupid and brainless Hank Steinbriener!!! Give me your answer allmighty yahoo users on the yankees chances for this season or even NEXT season and tell what you think about Hank and the Yanks. Thank you...

  1. Until the Yankees are mathematically eliminated from the play offs, they still have a shot & only 5 games out for a wild card spot & don't care for Hank too much.  I think they do well next season but still thinking about this season first

  2. It's too early to count them out, but I don't think they will make it.

I'm not sure why Hank Steinbrenner is to blame, so I'll reserve comment on that.

  3. yes they will BUT NOT THIS YEAR

  4. At this Point and time its a Maybe, They are 5 games back of Boston for the Wild Card, and 9 1/2 Games back of Tampa Bay for 1st Place in the East Division, and the White Sox and Twins tied for 1st in the Central Division Could end up also in the Wild Card lead soon both are 1/2 Game back of Boston, so the Yankees could be 5 and half back of both.

So I'm not ruling them out now but in September If nothing Changes I will see the Yankees will not play in October.

  5. Yes they still have a chance to  make it to the playoffs

but with each passing day the chance is reducing

Now Hank Steinbrenner is not to blame what so ever he said mike mussina needs to pitch more like jamie moyer/maddux and he did and now he has like 16 wins

and he is right on most of the things he says like if 20% of the injuries we went through didnt happen we would be in first place and its just bad luck the yankees are going through

    but nobody's complaining

  6. yes they allways come back they got giambi jeter arod  they sent cabrera and waived sexson but they definetely have a chance

  7. Considering all the injuries to the Red Sox and the Devil Rays, and that the Yankees are recovering from theirs, and how many games are left with those teams, I'd say there's a chance.

  8. h**l NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. yes this is were they start playin good

  10. Mathematically, sure, they have a chance. But let's dance through some numbers.

    Yankees through 17-August: 66-58 (.532). That's 124 games played.

Assume it will take 90 wins to get a postseason ticket in the AL East this year, either as division champion or the league wildcard. They have 38 games left; needing 24 wins to reach 90, they would have to put up a record of 24-14 (.632) for the rest of the season (and that's to win 90; still no guarantee of playoff time).

Let's break down those 38 games.

    winning percentage @home: .585 (38-27), 16 games left.

    w% on the road: .475 (28-31), 22 games left.

    Home games remaining, opponents:

    3 v. Boston (road w%: .444)

    3 v. Toronto (road w%: .469)

    3 v. Tampa Bay (road w%: .492)

    4 v. White Sox (road w%: .452)

    3 v. Baltimore (road w%: .426)

    Road games remaining, opponents:

    6 @ Toronto (home w%: .567)

    3 @ Baltimore (home w%: .564)

    1 @ Detroit (home w%: .541)

    3 @ Tampa Bay (home w%: .726)

    3 @ Seattle (home w%: .387)

    3 @ Angels (home w%: .617)

    3 @ Boston (home w%: .705)

Obviously being at home is an advantage, but nobody coming to Da Bronx is a pushover. And on the road -- ouch, the Trop, Fenway, and the Big A are houses of pain for visitors this season. Seattle is the only break the Yankees are going to get.

Can they put up 24 wins from this list? Let's give them a generous 12-4 record in the remaining home games and a sweep in Seattle; that's 15 wins. The Yanx would still need another nine in 19 road games. Now, they could go 9-10 as a visitor, but they're facing some very tough customers, and 9-10 (.474) is RIGHT AT where they've been playing on the road.

Postseason? Only if -- and this is a big if -- absolutely everything goes right, and even then, that's for 90 wins -- which may not be enough.

    Recent AL wildcards:

    2007 -- 94 wins (Yankees)

    2006 -- 95 (Tigers)

2005 -- 95 (Red Sox; Yankees awarded AL East by tiebreaker)

    2004 -- 98 (Red Sox)

    2003 -- 95 (Red Sox)

I wouldn't put a lot of hope on either (a) 90 wins taking the 2008 AL wildcard berth or (b) the 2008 Yankees reaching more than 90 wins.

Yankee Stadium is going dark after September 21.

  11. No, they suck, and so does Hank Steinbrenner

    Hey, you asked.

  12. I'm sick of answering this question please look this up before you post it.

  13. well the schedule for the last month and a half is not in the yankees favor but as long as the offense produces in the clutch and we get 6 solid innings out of the startes like mussina and pettite we should make a run at the wild card... remember that tampa bay still has to play the yanks 6 times in september and we play boston 6 more times, those r  the games that will decide everything, and as for Hank Steinbrenner, its great thats something right is finally coming out of his mouth, but he is giving up to early, this is not the man that said he wanted Joba as a starter.

  14. The Yanks will win the AL wild card. There hitting is starting to come alive. And they have matsui coming tomorrow so that will help there offense a little bit more. They also have Pavano coming next week i think hes a pretty good pitcher if he doesn't get hurt.

  15. Hank who?

  16. h**l no they wont,

all that money going to waste for nothing,

    GO RED SOX!!!!!!!!!

  17. The Yankees will miss the post-season for the first time in 13 years. I'm not going to place the blame on Hank Steinbrenner, but he certainly is no George. When Chen-Meng Wang got hurt running the bases in Houston, He blamed the NL for not having a DH. That is the talk of a man who is looking for reasons for why his majorly overpaid team is not performing up to par. Personally, I am a national league guy, and a brewers fan here in milwaukee. I dont like the DH but thats beside the point. The Yankees simply don't have enough pitching to contend. Girardi isn't the problem, and niether is Hank, entirely that is. Pitching is 90% of the game, and lets just say guys like Sidney Ponson arent getting the job done.
