    For 1080i from the player, connect using component video (Y, Pb, Pr) cables, DVI cable, or HDMI cable.

    Some players may require connection using DVI or HDMI, without any support for component video, to enjoy upscaled video.

  5. Yes.  If your TV is capable of 1080p the it is reverse compatible with all previous resolutions.  1080p is just the MAX.  You can use 480i/p, 720p, and 1080i/p.  

    1080i is really just interlaced video that fools the human eye into thinking it is seeing a true 1080p signal.  You see, in 1080p you are constantly seeing 1080 lines.  With 1080i you are seeing 540 lines that alternate and cycle though on the screen so fast that the human eye sees all of the line present at one time. Technically the use the exact same space on the screen.  And really, only a handful of people can really tell the difference between 1080p and 1080i.
