  1. The crate motor would work, but it is not made for a marine application. To make this easy to understand, a marine engine is made to be ran at constant high rpm s where a vehicle engine as you know shifts down rpm s with  transmission. Therefore the crate engine would wear out quickly.

  2. I can only tell you the trouble that i had with mine. have a '79 boat with a 350 mercruiser that had a cracked block. Had a million people (even at the boat shops!) tell me that any 350 4 bolt from the same year will bolt right up. Those dreaded words: bolt right up!!!! I bought an engine and discovered that, not the camshaft, but the crankshaft must be the same to hook up to the outdrive. Sold that engine, after much frustration, and finally found a '72 3/4 ton truck engine that would fit. I would say, unfortunately, that a 350 crank will not match up to your outdrive. But, then again, it might just BOLT RIGHT UP!!!!  AAAAARRRRRRGGGHHH!!!!  Hey, did you try michigan motorz. com. ? they have really the best prices i was able to find on NEW not rebuilt or remanned MARINE APPLICATION SPECIFIC motors.

  3. generally no  you need a marine motor.  if you try to do it it may work but you will have so much problems with it yll hang yourself.   insure it with progressive, sink it and they will buy you a new boat.

  4. all but the ignition and the wiring harness.  motor mounts shaved to fit. and drive engagement. thats it.... i think
