  1. The .357 Mag will kill a black bear, if the hunter places his shot properly. I would, however, opt for the .44 Mag if given the choice. As with any firearm, a poorly placed shot, regardless of caliber, particularly on a bear, is asking for problems.  


  2. Yes, a well placed shot with a .357 would kill a black bear.
