Will a 4 pin to 4 pin cable work without firewire installed?

I'm just wanna know the easiest way to transfer video footage to a computer. My camera and my comp both have 4-pin ports.

If they are both firewire 400 ports (camera and computer), yes, it will work.

FireWire is peer-to-peer, meaning that two FireWire cameras can talk to each other without going through a computer.

But for video transfer, moreso for DV tape vcam, the video editing app* captures the video stream from the video cam via  firewire cable - in your case, 4-pin vcam connected to 4-pin pc.
