okay so i have a level four dye and i wanna know if putting a 40 with it will make the color less dark. Every time i put a 20 with it, it turns out much darker than i want it to be. one time i put a 20 with a level 6 dark blonde and it turned out to be more of a dark brown! my hair was a medium blonde when i did that

  1. I think soo.

  2. You need to know this... For depositing color you use the lower level developer. For lifting color you use higher level developer. Depending on what color your hair is now, and what you're trying to achieve I don't know but I will tell you that using a level 40 developer is not used with a color so dark as a level 4. Put it this way, if you want to make your hair darker use a lower level developer..if you're going towards blonde use a higher level developer. In your case, try using a color that is lighter than what you may initially want with a level 20 developer. your hair is probably just very porous and soaks up all the color =]
