Question:

Will a 50 cc moped pull a sidecar?

I am considering buying a moped but I would like to have the option of a sidecar. In my state anything over 50cc's requires a motorcycle license. I am wondering if a 50cc moped could actually pull a sidecar. Any thoughts?

  1. I just finished building a sidecar for my beachcruiser.  With my 50lb dog on it I can make it up most hills but it is hard.  With a lower gear it would be much easier.  If you can get a lower gear for the moped it would not have any issues.  Also if you have a small dog and you are a small person the moped should not have any issues.  I think your biggest problem will be finding a sidecar.  Most likely you will have to make one yourself or get somebody to custom build one for you.

  2. A side car for a passenger or for some storage/groceries?

I rode double on a moped like ten years ago and believe my the thing was not happy. Nevermind the added weight of the side car. So on level to slight grade it would be possible but I wouldn't suggest it.

  3. Sorry...no. The extra weigh is just too much for it.

  4. I do not think so. Some  Vespas pull side car but I think they are larger
