Will a 5200 BTU A/C keep a room cool?

I am a college student and live in the dorms. I am guessing my room is 9 X 15. Someone is offering me a 5200 BTU A/C. I am wondering if that will be enough BTU's to keep it cool. Since I live on the 2nd floor I will have to hire someone to put it in. I don't want to shell out money, only to discover it was a waster of time and money.

  1. that is more than enough power to turn your dorm room into an igloo.  Burrr its going to get pretty cold lol.

  2. If it's a window unit, and you have a double hung

window, installation is easy. No ladder required.

It's done from inside. Just don't drop that sucker.

5200 BTUs should cool the space if there's only

one outside wall as is typical for dorm rooms.

( It'll draw about 800W. running. - If hotplates etc.

are not permitted, they probably won't let you keep it.)

  3. Yes

  4. you really only need a 1500 btu for the size of your room.  why do you need to hire someone to put it up?  lowe's sells "racks" that will keep it in place that you can put in yourself.
