Question:

Will a Chicken Sagwala have a lot of sauce?

I'm having an Indian tonight, and I'm thinking of having a Chicken Sagwala (for the first time). I usually like dry dishes, such as biryanies and chicken tikka. I'm not so keen on ones with a lot of sauce, like kormas.

So, I'm just wondering if it's really 'saucy'?

Thanks!

  1. "Sag" means spinach, and usually those dishes like Sag Paneer or Chicken Sagwala are very thick, rich, and creamy.  The spinach makes the dish hearty and it doesn't feel so much like sauce as a deliciously thick, creamed spinach.

Also, with sag dishes, if you mix them with rice, they'll definitely have the dry consistently that you're looking for.

  2. Depends on the amount of chicken stock or liquid added. You could make it as wet as soup or as dry as a bone - it depends on the recipe!

  3. Saagwala is a thick and creamy curry, traditionally it's not very liquidy (or it's not supposed to be).  Try it, it's delicious ---you will enjoy it!  You can see the image below:

Now I am craving some myself!
