Will a Dislocated Kneecap affect me for the rest of my life?

I dislocated my kneecap about 1 week ago playing football. It wouldn't go back in place on the field. I was in the hospital when they put it back in place, but it took them 3 hrs to do it. They thought it might have been fractured or something. It was one of the most painful injury's I have ever had and I was wondering if it will affect me in sports for rest of my life.

Thanks

  1. It might. It depends how well you take care of yourself and knowing when to push and not push your body. I would possibly talk to a physical therapist specializing in sports medicine because they have seen more injuries and recoveries than doctors have. They are much more knowledgeable than the doctors. When I hurt my knee I went to the doctor and they couldn't tell me anything, it was even a orthopedic doctor. Ridiculous. We called up my family's friend's physical therapy practice and my favorite therapist looked at my knee, moved it around, and told me I probably irked something, but it wasn't serious.
