Will a French teaching degree allow me to teach in the United States?

I speak French and Spanish and hold a B.A. in Spanish. I would like to study in France and I am considering getting a Master's degree in Teaching French as a Second Language from a French university. If I obtain this degree will I then be able to teach French in a public high school in the United States? Or will I need an additional degree/certification? Also, will I be allowed to teach Spanish as well?

  1. A French teaching degree on its own won't allow you to teach in the USA.  You will need your transcripts be evaluated in the USA and if you intend to teach Primary or Secondary education, i.e., K-12, then you will need to also earn a teacher certification, or licensure.  Each state is different, so you will need to determine where you would like to immigrate and teach.  the link below will help you with that.  The teaching work VIsa will also be required if you are not a US Citizen.  GOod Lvck.

As for teaching Spanish, it truly depends on your credentials and ability, but it is possible with the above guidance.

  2. You need to contact your local department of education in US, and find out about the requirements to obtain a teaching license in that state. Good luck in your future projects!

  3. You will not need another degree, but you will need to get a credential for the state in which you will be living before you can teach.
