Question:

Will a PC subwoofer work with TV?

I have a guy trying to hook a sub from his computer up to his TV. His television has RCA and Digital (guessing digital coax from drawing he made...not optical) as the available audio outputs. The speaker has a serial plug looking input on the back of the speaker and a 3.5mm mini stereo plug on the other end. Says he tried the stereo plug to RCA adapter with no luck. Will this sucker play on a TV. If not, why? Shouldn't that adapter do the trick? Is a receiver needed?

  1. I am using an old IBM computer subwoofer with my Sony LCD TV.  I connect the audio out from the TV to the 3.5 mm stereo plug of the subwoofer and it rocks.

  2. totally different signals

the TV outputs a digital audio and the sub is looking for a line level audio.

You need a receiver to make it work.
